Presso Tips – How can I get hotter coffee?

Pre warm the porta filter – put it in a cup of boiled water for a few minutes (make sure the PRESSO body is warm and not out of a cold cupboard etc)
Warm your cups up with some hot water before you use them also.

Presso Tips – How much bar pressure do you get from presso?

This depends a lot on how firmly you press the arms down. In normal usage expect between 5 to10 bar.

How do I make really excellent coffee from presso?

Make sure you use clean fresh water that has not been re boiled.

Use coffee grounds suitable for espresso machines (not too large or the coffee will be weak and thing. Not too fine or it will be very hard to push the arms down)

For maximum crema try overfilling the cylinder with hot water to increase the pressure. Raise the arms and squeeze down firmly stopping once the espresso is out. Catch the remainder in a second cup and throw this away.

Tamp the grounds down firmly with the PRESSO spoon tamp.

After filling presso with hot water raise the handles and then let the water infuse into the grinds in for 15 to 25 seconds.

Push the handles downwards in a firm smooth motion and hold them at the end of the stroke (curl your fingers around the base legs and wait for all the water to be extracted.

Sometimes a second repetition may be needed to extract all the moisture from the coffee.

Presso Tips – How do I clean my presso?

To clean presso simply remove the portafilter by turning to the right, knock out the coffee ‘cake’ into a bin and rinse off any remaining coffee grounds that may be left on the body. Occasionally wash with soapy water but do not put presso through a dishwasher. The salts will destroy the high quality finish. The milk frother however is dishwasher safe.

Occasionally you may want to clean presso more thoroughly. You can do this in 2 ways -
With the portafilter removed and presso upside down, press the centre of the round rubber diaphram (with the small holes). You will see that this diaphram deforms allowing you to remove it from the edge. Clean the diaphram with warm soapy water and before replacing it also clean the inside of presso from the underside. Replace the diaphram before usage.

Undo the double top bolt which attaches the plunger to the metal arms. With the bolts off the arms will fold back allowing you to remove the plunger. Clean thoroughly with warm soapy water and and re assemble.
